America’s first cowboy turns out to be black: Okezone techno
JAKARTA – The American film industry, Hollywood, portrays cowboys as white people who not only run cattle ranches, but are also skilled at riding horses and playing with guns. This depiction is always seen in various cowboy themed movies.
In fact, this contradicts a study conducted by a group of researchers from the Florida Museum of Natural History. In this research it was discovered that the first cowboys in America actually came from Mexico and the Caribbean.

What’s even more surprising is that the cowboys were not white but black. Cowboys from Africa actually came to the American continent to herd cattle.
As stated by IFL Science, Saturday (9/30/2023), previously circulating hypotheses stated that cows in America were brought by Christopher Columbus in 1492.
So, before Christopher Columbus came to bring cows from Europe, America had none at all.
It’s just that the results obtained by researchers at the Florida Museum of Natural History say something different. The livestock was in fact imported directly from Africa.
The study is based on DNA research from 21 cows from archaeological sites dating back to the 16th to 18th centuries, from there it is known that most of the cow samples show a link to Europe. However, there is a very rare specimen that has no relation to European livestock.
This specimen actually proves that the cattle brought to America in the 17th century actually came from Africa.
According to this research, slaves were not brought to America just to be traded. African slaves actually played an important role in the implementation of cattle ranching in America.
