All districts and cities in North Sulawesi have achieved UHC designation
Manado (MidLand) – All district and city governments in North Sulawesi (Sulut) province have achieved the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) title with National Health Insurance (JKN) membership coverage of more than 95% of the total population.
“In addition to reaching a coverage of more than 95% of the total population, active participants from the total participant coverage also reached 79.51% of the total population,” said BPJS Health Region X Deputy Director Octovianus Ramba, in Manado on Monday.
UHC, he said, is a health insurance system that ensures that all people have access to equitable, quality and comprehensive health services, starting with promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services.
“The UHC standard is declared achieved if JKN participation coverage reaches a minimum of 95% of the total population. The participant activity level is a percentage of the number of active participants among all registered participants who can access health services,” he said.

Octovianus appreciated the North Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov) and all the district and city governments for their dedication and commitment in supporting the JKN program.
“As of September 1, 2024, all districts/cities in North Sulawesi have achieved UHC. This shows the strong commitment of the provincial government and district and city governments in implementing the JKN program,” he said.
He stressed that achieving UHC is very important because it ensures access to health services for every citizen without discrimination. In this way, people can receive the care they need without having to worry about the high costs that often represent the main obstacle to accessing health services.
“This UHC result demonstrates that the government is committed to protecting the health of its population,” Octovianus said.

BPJS Health, he continued, continues to strive to improve the quality of services through expanding cooperation with health facilities in North Sulawesi. To date, 436 First Level Health Facilities (FKTP) and 62 Advanced Level Referral Health Facilities (FKRTL) have cooperated with BPJS Health Manado Main Branch and BPJS Health Tondano Branch.
Octovianus emphasized BPJS Health’s commitment to continuing to improve the quality of services and ensuring that all people can enjoy their rights to quality health services.
“One of the efforts made by BPJS Health is to expand the network of collaboration with health facilities, ensure the availability of necessary medicines, and increase the capacity and competence of health workers collaborating with BPJS Health,” he said.
