AHY: Democrats are handing out letters of recommendation for district/city elections in installments

Jakarta (MidLand) –

Democratic Party chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono alias AHY has said that his party will provide letters of recommendation in installments for prospective candidate pairs in the 2024 regional elections (Pilkada) at the district/city level.

This system of installments is implemented because the political map of each region has different complexities. So far, according to him, the Democratic Party has decided only on 103 letters of recommendation for the regional district/municipal elections.

“We are certainly not in a hurry, but we must not be late. This is the principle of momentum and we also see the best chances of victory,” AHY said after
Submission of recommendation letters for district/city elections at DPP Democratic Party office, Jakarta, Saturday.

Although they have chosen 103, as of Saturday the party has only provided 60 letters of recommendation to potential candidates. Moreover, he said, the recommendations will be provided at a later date.

In addition, according to him, the recommendations for the names of the regional head candidates and their deputies in each region are provided directly in a single package. He assured that the recommendations were final.

He said the recommendation isn’t just about the electability poll results. Even if the recommended candidate isn’t in the top spot, Democrats are also looking at other factors that could potentially win.

“We see that the support from other political parties is also quite good, so even though they are behind in terms of eligibility, we can provide tickets early in this phase,” he said.

On Saturday, the democrats provided recommendations for 60 regional district/city electoral pairs in 24 provinces, namely Aceh, Riau, Riau Islands, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, West Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara and Nusa Tenggara provinces.

Also, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, West Papua, Southwest Papua and Papua.
