AFPI: Debt collectors must have professional certification

Jakarta (MidLand) – Indonesian Fintech Joint Financing Association (AFPI) General President Entjik S. Djafar explained that all debt collectors must have professional certification as a form of officials’ credibility in fulfilling SOPs and in safeguarding the rights and obligations of customers in the financial services sector.

“All collectors must be certified (professionally) with AFPI, and all collectors must be from certified companies or members of AFPI,” Entjik said during a talk show in the Kuningan area of ​​South Jakarta on Monday .

Additionally, Entjik explained that there are two types of debt collectors desk collection (collection officer for customers whose loans are or have become overdue) e collected in the field (a collection agent who visits customers to settle their debts and explains the consequences for any payment that is late or not paid immediately).

Before it officially became official desk collection AND field collectionwill receive training relating to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in carrying out debt collection activities.

There are two types of SOPs that will be provided to prospective officials, namely the Regulation of the Financial Services Authority (POJK) number 22 of 2023 relating to the protection of consumers and the public in the financial services sector, as well as special SOPs of the AFPI.

“After that there is an exam, if he passes he will be awarded certification,” Entjik said.

Subsequently, the professional certification for debt collectors will be valid for three years from the moment of its creation. In addition to this, agents are advised to renew their certification every three years if they are still working as collection agents.

“Every year (it is recommended) to keep it Reload in every company because they are afraid that the rules will change,” he said.

If tax collectors commit violations, AFPI does not hesitate to impose sanctions on them. Starting from warning sanctions up to systems blacklist in accordance with applicable provisions.

“There are several caveats that can be imposed,” Entjik said.

“If he acts outside the SOP and is very unethical, then he is our drug addict blacklist”.

Inside first blacklist, collection workers who violate the professional code of ethics will first be prosecuted by a special ethics committee. If it’s already inside blacklistthe affected billing manager can no longer work in the industry or company fintech.
