Banda Aceh (MidLand) – The horse racing branch of the Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) 2024 is organizing a “trial event” through local horse racing in preparation for the PON competition on September 11-12.
The track’s “test event” took place on Sunday at HM Hasan Gayo Arena, Blang Bebangka, Pegasing, Takengon, Central Aceh.
Technical delegate for equestrian sports at PON Aceh-North Sumatra 2024, Fauzan Haviz in Aceh on Sunday said there were at least 72 local horses competing in six races.
“This ‘test event’ is to directly verify (the track, ed.) with local horses that run. So, before this PON, we check whether the ‘track’ is good or not,” he said.
According to him, preparations for the equestrian sports competitions at PON Aceh-North Sumatra have reached 90 percent, especially for the stables and the track.
“Because the most important thing is the cage and the track. The podium is around 65-70%,” he said.
He admitted that the PON Aceh-North Sumatra horse racing track can be considered the best in Indonesia, especially since horse racing in Aceh is considered a popular festival.
“In Aceh, horse racing has become a popular festival. So, it will definitely be very crowded. Many people will watch it,” he said.

Horses from contingents from various regions, Fauzan said, have arrived on site and are in the stables ready to compete on September 11 and 12.
11 provinces participated in equestrian sports competitions in PON Aceh-North Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, South Kalimantan, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, DIY, East Java and North Sulawesi.
There are at least 10 race numbers that will be held in two days, namely Wednesday (9/11) and precisely 1,000 meters F, 1,000 meters D, 1,100 meters C, 1,200 meters B and 1,300 meters A.
Then, on Thursday (9/12) five race numbers continued: E 1,200 meters, D 1,400 meters, C 1,600 meters, B 1,850 meters and A 2,200 meters.
