A tornado hit the border between Jatinangor and Rancaekek, starting with hail
MidLand, Jatinangor – A tornado hit the border area of Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency, and Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Wednesday afternoon, February 21, 2024. The tornado accompanied by rain began to appear around 3.30pm WIB.
According to a report by the Regional Disaster Management Agency of West Java Province (BPBD), the tornado hit residential areas, factories and shopping centers around the border between Jatinangor and Rancaekek.
Naufal, a 35-year-old Rancaekek resident, said heavy rain accompanied by ice poured over the village of Linggar before being followed by a tornado. “In fact, the rain was quite heavy, also accompanied by ice,” Naufal told Tempo.
West Java Province BPBD Emergency Section Chief Hadi Rahmat said that there are already five locations affected by this tornado disaster, based on temporary reports: “Temporary impacts in front of PT Kwalram, Dwipura industrial area , in front of Borma Rancaekek, West Java Mobile Brigade Police Dormitory and in front of Indomart Eston Jatinangor,” Hadi said in his written statement, Wednesday afternoon.
Hadi confirmed that his agency has coordinated with the BPBD of Sumedang Regency to take immediate action and carry out an assessment or review of the impact of the incident.
