MidLand, Padang – Flood with a water height of over 1 meter inundating the homes of residents in Parak Jambu area, Dadok nggul Hitam sub-district, Koto Tangah, PadangWest Sumatra, due to its height rain from Thursday afternoon, March 7, 2024.
“Inside the house the water level is around 1.5 metres, while on the street it is around 2 metres,” a student named Bayu Aria (21), quoted by Antara, said on Friday.
Bayu said water started entering his rented house around 11pm WIB due to heavy rains. “Seeing that the pool of water continued to increase, I immediately evacuated myself to a safe place so as not to be trapped in the flood zone,” he said.
Five of his friends, he said, were still in their rented house because they were trapped in the flood, plus the flow of water was quite strong.
Another resident, Nofriadi (34), said the standing water in his house had reached a height of 1.5 metres. As a result, he, his wife and their two children were forced to flee their home to keep themselves safe. No items could be saved as the water quickly entered the house and rose immediately.
As of Friday morning, Nofriadi and other residents were still seen staying in a temporary shelter waiting for the water to recede. They took refuge on the terraces of the shops.

Elsewhere, flooding was reported at various places in Padang city due to heavy rains that hit the city since Thursday afternoon.
Some of the flood spots, including the areas of Alai Parak Kopi, Rawang, Seberang Padang, Parak Gadang Timur, Dadok Tunggul Hitam, Gunung Pangilun and Kurao Pagang.
The joint SAR team comprising BPBD Padang, Basarnas, police, TNI and other disaster personnel have been carrying out continuous evacuations since Thursday evening.
The flooding was caused by heavy rains that hit the city since Thursday afternoon around 2pm WIB.
