A day without shadows will happen this afternoon, get ready for extraordinary heat potential: Okezone techno

JAKARTA – The climate is very hot What happened recently in Jakarta is expected to reach a climax on Monday (10/9/2023). The reason is that today we will have the phenomenon of the sun at the top or a day without shadows.

This phenomenon is actually not something foreign to the Indonesian people. According to the Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), the phenomenon of the sun overhead or a day without shade often occurs twice a year in Indonesia.

This is because Indonesia’s location is around the equator. It’s just that in each city the sun-up phenomenon will be different. So the time of day without shade will also be different.

“The main culmination occurs when the declination of the Sun is the same latitude as the city,” BMKG explained in the article “Shadowless Day in Indonesia” which was uploaded to the official BMKG website.

In the main culmination position, the Sun will be directly overhead or at the zenith point. As a result, the image of a vertical object appears to disappear about 30 seconds after and before the peak time. This happens because there is a buildup with the item itself. From there the main culmination is also known as the shadowless day.

BMKG went on to say that the peak had an impact on air temperatures which were warmer than usual.

“The main culmination occurs when the position of the Sun is directly overhead. At that time the angle of incidence of sunlight will be perpendicular to the surface of the earth, so that the energy of sunlight will be concentrated in a restricted area,” BMKG wrote.

“This causes the Earth’s surface to receive more energy, so the air temperature is warmer than normal,” the statement continues.

However, Guswanto, BMKG MP for Meteorology, said this phenomenon does not always result in a drastic or extreme increase in air temperature.

“Other factors such as wind speed, cloud cover and air humidity levels have a greater impact on the temperature in an area,” he said last week.

What is certain is that this time the conditions for shade-free days should be different than in previous years because the atmospheric conditions will be warmer. Based on BMKG’s Instagram upload on Saturday (10/07/2023), the warm weather that occurred from October 6 to 7, 2023 in Indonesia was around 35-39 degrees Celsius.
