47 People Enter RSJ, South Kalimantan Police Respond to Rampant Cases of Amethyst Drunkenness

The data showed that 47 people showed symptoms of suspected amethyst poisoning, two of whom even died.

Banjarmasin (MidLand) – The South Kalimantan Regional Police Narcotics Research Directorate has taken strategic measures to respond, overcome and prevent the spread of amethyst intoxication cases in the local province, with 47 people even being treated at the Sambang Lihum (RSJ) Psychiatric Hospital.

South Kalimantan regional police public relations chief Pol. Adam Erwindi in Banjarbaru on Sunday said there have been several concrete steps in response to this phenomenon.

The measures taken by the South Kalimantan Regional Police Narcotics Research Directorate, headed by Narcotics Research Director Pol. Kelana Jaya, included data collection at RSJ Sambang Lihum for a week.

From the data collection it emerged that 47 people showed symptoms of suspected amethyst poisoning, two of whom even died.

Police Commissioner Erwindi said his party also coordinated with related parties such as the Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) and the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and conducted forensic laboratory tests (labfor) in Surabaya to determine the contents of the amethyst tree.

The Directorate for Narcotics Research also intervened against a person with the initials M (47) suspected of having distributed white drugs without brands and logos with 20,000 items in evidence. This drug was allegedly consumed by the victims who have now been arrested and named as suspects.

“The evidence that has been confiscated,” the police commissioner said. Erwindi is currently being taken to the forensic laboratory to determine the content of the drug.

In addition, the Directorate of Narcotics Research together with the Banjarmasin police also conducted thorough examinations on the victims AR and S with the result that the victims did not consume amethyst, but consumed 2-3 white medicines without any brands and logos.

Based on this information, Banjarmasin police arrested three drug dealers with the initials MS, IS and SY with 609 evidences. The suspects admitted that they sold the drug to the victim at a price of IDR 25,000 per pill.

“The four people have now been named as suspects and charged under Article 435 joint “Article 138, paragraph 2, of Law No. 17 of 2023 on health provides for a penalty of 12 years of imprisonment,” stressed Police Commissioner Erwindi.

Regarding the viral video of some drunk residents, the head of public relations of the South Kalimantan regional police said that not all the videos that went viral were due to amethyst. There is a video of people drunk on alcohol, but it is titled Drunken Amethyst.

Furthermore, he continued, there is a video of a bird race in Batola regency, also titled Consequences of Amethyst Consumption.

For this reason, the South Kalimantan Regional Police has appealed to citizens to be wise in their use of social media and not to consume unbranded medicines whose contents they do not know or products made from amethyst trees because they can have negative effects on the body.

Police Commissioner Erwindi also said that Banjarmasin police have increased patrols at places where young people were using dangerous drugs.

These measures, he said, were to overcome and prevent the spread of cases of drunkenness due to white pills. This also protects the public from the dangers of drug consumption without proper permission and control.
