3,956 Undana alumni diplomas spelled incorrectly, Chancellor says cannot be reprinted
TIME.CO, Jakarta – A total of 3,956 sheets degree student of the University of Nusa Cendana (Undana) Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara apparently contains incorrect information or typos. Former students also asked the campus to reissue their diplomas, but the provost said this could not be accommodated.
Registrar Maxs UE Sanam of the University of Nusa Cendana (Undana) said he could not reissue diplomas without a cause. “It is not possible to print new diplomas unless the former students appeal to the State Administrative Court (PTUN) and the court orders them to reprint the diplomas,” he said in Kupang, Thursday, September 21, 2023.
Thousands of June-September 2023 bachelor’s degrees were due to an error in the university’s accreditation writing. Sanam admitted that the mistake was due to negligence on Undana’s part.
“We will thoroughly investigate this negligence and make a BAP (inspection report) on the academic section dealing with students’ administrative affairs,” Sanam said.
He also apologized for the mistake that happened.

Sanam also declared the campus responsible for the error in writing the accreditation number by issuing a decision letter (SK) of the Registrar regarding the correction of the accreditation number on the diploma which is written 38/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/PT/III/2018 which should be 121/SK/BAN-PT/Ak/PT/II/2023.

This decision is in accordance with Regulation Number 6 of 2022 of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology relating to diplomas, certificates of competence, professional certificates, educational qualifications and equivalence of diplomas of universities of other countries. Article 17 Paragraph 1 of the Regulation of the Ministry of Education and Culture establishes that a replacement certificate is an identification document considered to be the same as a diploma, an academic transcript, an accompanying diploma certificate (SKPI), a certificate of competence or a professional certificate.
So, Sanam said The party will not reissue diplomas that include the correct higher education accreditation number, but will issue a decree of the Chancellor of Undana regarding the correction of the accreditation number on the diploma. Sanam said mistakes in writing university accreditation numbers will not affect the job application process. She also ensured that the campus supported former students who needed mediation based on the needs of the place where they would work or continue their studies at a higher level.
Undana Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs Annytha IR Detha said that the diplomas of former students will still be valid and that a Rector’s Decree regarding Higher Education Accreditation Information will be issued to change the accreditation number on the diploma. “The numbering of national diplomas (PIN) is not a problem because it is from the General Directorate of Higher Education, only the higher education accreditation numbers will be replaced by decree of the rector,” he said.
