306 students from 71 countries receive scholarships from Indonesian government, learn languages to art
TIME.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) has again accepted 306 participants Scholarship Darmasiswa class year 2023/2024 after being delayed for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Of the 306 participants, 235 will study Indonesian, 51 participants will study art, and 20 participants will study culture spread across 66 Indonesian universities.
The program aims to provide the next generation of youth and world leaders with an intercultural learning experience by enhancing their personal development and promoting the intercultural understanding necessary for world peace.
The secretary-general of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Suharti, had high hopes for the participants to become Indonesian ambassadors capable of solving global problems, and said that art and culture played an important role soft power in an ever-changing global society.
“We hope all of you can become Indonesian ambassadors who promote and help preserve Indonesian culture and language, and you can become agents of peace who will foster better understanding between nations and create harmony in global society,” said Suharti, quoted by the Ministry of Education. and the Culture website, which Tempo cited today, Tuesday 5 September 2023.
Initially, the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program was established in 1974 as an initiative of ASEAN member countries. However, up to now, the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program has produced graduates with over 9,000 participants from 135 countries around the world.

For the class of 2023/2024, the registration for the Darmasiswa Scholarship Program was done online from 20 February to 7 April 2023. During the registration, 1,511 accounts from 84 countries were registered to take part in the interview selection process by the of the Indonesian embassy in the country of origin and academic selection by the proposing university. After being passed, participants will study Indonesian art, culture and language for approximately one year.
“We hope that a year living in Indonesia will give you an unforgettable experience, with new knowledge, new skills and new friends, and will further stimulate your curiosity about our culture,” said Suharti.
The head of the Public Relations and Cooperation Office of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Anang Ristanto, said that during the program, the participants will receive the right to health facilities, accounting allowances and living expenses.
Before embarking on higher education, program participants take part in training courses on various topics, such as understanding various cultures, introduction to the Indonesian language and culture, as well as an explanation of the Darmasiswa Scholarship regulations.
