JAKARTA – Not long ago the news circulated TikTok Store will soon return to operate in Indonesia. This news was further reinforced by TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew reportedly proposing a meeting with President Joko Widodo in the near future. So, is it true that TikTok Shop will resume operations in Indonesia next month?
In this regard, it is noted that the TikTok Shop itself will reopen no later than November 10, 2023. This decision was made after various negotiations between TikTok and Indonesian government authorities regarding security and compliance issues, as cited by Antara, Wednesday (25/10 /2023).
Although it has not been confirmed directly by TikTok, the possibility of the truth on this matter is increasingly open following the news of the meeting between TikTok’s CEO and President Jokowi. The meeting, scheduled for next week, was also confirmed directly by the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki.
“I heard and sure enough the CEO of Tiktok proposed meeting with the president,” Teten said.
“Maybe in the near future the letter will be presented to the president. At least next week,” he continued.
If we refer to the scheduled time of the meeting, it is not impossible that TikTok Shop will return to Indonesia next month. However, keep in mind that the exact time may change before it is finally confirmed, either by TikTok itself or by the government.
Previously, the closure of the TikTok Shop was carried out based on the Regulation of the Ministry of Commerce (Permendag) Number 31 of 2023. TikTok, which is a social media, is prohibited from opening buying and selling services such as e-commerce.
