Has the Longspan LRT Jabodebek curve been widened? Designer: Can crash into buildings

TIME.CO, Jakarta – Designer of long span curved railway bridges or cross railway integrated railway bridges or LRT extension Arvilla Delitriana alias Dina answered the question of widening the curve so that the train does not slow down. According to him, the correct term is widening the radius. “If the effect is magnified, it may crash into a building and the drop may not occur in the corridor alignment that has been planned,” it said on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023.

Dina admitted that if the curve of the railway bridge was widened, the effect would be that the trains would go faster. However, the rail distance will also increase.

It was previously reported that the Long or Long Arch Bridge on Jabodebek Line LRT which is located at the intersection of Jalan HR Rasuna Said or Kuningan and Jalan Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta is under investigation recently. BUMN Deputy Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo assessed that the Longspan of the Jabodebek LRT was called a wrong design because it has a steep slope.

Consequently when the train passes it cannot go at high speed. According to him, if the curve of the bridge is widened, the Jabodebek LRT train can keep running fast. The LRT arch bridge, which was built on the inner city highway overpass, spans 148 meters in length with a radius of curvature of 115 meters.

The arch of the bridge, according to Dina, is made by a consultant and the designer fits the bridge structure to that arch. After the completion of the construction, trials with the train were carried out. Loads at first with no people, but sandbags. The load complies with the bridge committee requirements of a minimum of 70 percent and then tested at different speeds according to the design.

Then sensors are installed on the bridge that can show numbers that can be checked with the design data. According to Dina, the test results were consistent with the project results. “There was nothing that needed to be fixed at the time in order for a proper functioning certificate to be issued,” she said.

The Transport Ministry has been testing the Jabodebek LRT with passengers from July-August until the government inaugurates its use on 18 August 2023. Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the Jabodebek LRT will be able to carry up to 500 thousand passengers per day. Without the driver, the train will pass through 18 stop points with a total track length of 44 kilometres.
