By copying the PS5, Microsoft is reportedly at the heart of manufacturing the discless Xbox console

TIME.CO, Jakarta – After a lot of news Microsoft closed a $69 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard, which was the largest deal in history gamethe company is reportedly planning some big changes to the console series Xboxes available.

News of the new product candidate appeared on the XboxEra podcast. Co-host Nick Baker says he’s heard about the console overhaul from several sources. The product candidate is said to be a digital-only Series X, so no disc drive. Nick went on to say that Xbox has plans for more hardware in 2025, but didn’t provide details on the product in question.

The next generation of Xbox could offer a discless model like the Sony PS5. The American tech giant is looking to make major design changes to its upcoming Xbox console. So if you do the math, the Xbox Series X without a disc drive means it’s cheaper than a regular Series X console. “A lot of people want that,” Nick said of the reasons for creating the new product.

Currently, Sony is reportedly working on a PS5 Pro/PS6 refresh, while Nintendo is believed to be planning a Switch 2 model. Based on the current timeline, it should arrive sometime next year or 2026.

Even though it lags behind the PlayStation 5, the Xbox Series X/S console performs quite well. Both are great options for current generation consoles, with the X Series capable of running games at 4K UHD for a slightly higher cost. Meanwhile, the S-series is a more affordable variant for more relaxed gamers.

The console has also been supported by new exclusive games, with a notable example being Bethesda’s latest Starfield IP. The Xbox-exclusive line-up is expected to grow once the deal between Activision and Blizzard is finalized. Additionally, Call Of Duty will reportedly remain a cross-platform franchise, with Xbox having no plans for the series other than bringing it to Xbox Game Pass.
