Announcement
The hope, Handoko said, is that the field of archeology in Indonesia is no less than that of National Geographic. With this program, BRIN hopes to train reliable young archaeologists in the future.
“We will do the same for manuscripts and oral traditions. Because we have so many collections, even in digital format, that have not been studied at all,” he added.
Especially with regard to manuscripts and oral traditions, it is likely that its center will perhaps be in Pasar Minggu, Jakarta, to be precise at the former headquarters of the National Archaeological Research Center (Arkenas).
Handoko assures that this program will be open to everyone fresh graduate or recent graduates, like all BRIN programmes. “So there are no more stories about entering the FIB, let alone archeology, the future is unclear. The hope is that there are not only six archaeological departments across the archipelago, but that they could increase to 12, 16 and so on,” he said.
