BMKG weather forecast: rain, strong winds, high waves in several areas

TIME.CO, Jakarta – Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Council (BMKG extension) released weather forecast for Thursday, August 10, 2023, with parts of Indonesia affected To rainstrong winds and high waves.

Moderate rain is expected in Ambon and Medan on Wednesday. “Light rains are likely to occur in Samarinda, Tarakan, Jayapura and Manado,” the BMKG data said.

The provincial capital is estimated to be shrouded in fog in Jambi, Pekanbaru and smoky in Banjarmasin. The air temperature ranges from 18 to 34°C with the lowest temperature in Bandung. While the highest temperatures are recorded in Bandung, Semarang, Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya and Makassar.

Forecast based on impact of heavy rains with alert status in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi and Papua. There are no provinces on alert.

Areas with the potential for high winds are in West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi and North Maluku.

BMKG also issued an early warning of high waves that could potentially occur in several water areas on August 10-11, 2023.

The wind pattern in the northern part of Indonesia moves predominantly from the southwest with wind speeds ranging from 6 to 25 knots, while in the southern part of Indonesia the dominant movement is from the east-southeast with wind speeds between 5 and 25 knots.

“The highest wind speeds were observed in Sermata waters off the Tanimbar Islands, Kai Islands-Aru Islands waters and the Arafuru Sea,” the BMKG said.

Very high waves are likely to occur in the range of 2.5-4 meters in northern waters of Sabang, western waters of Aceh, western waters of Simeulue Island-Mentawai Islands, Bengkulu waters, waters of Enggano Island-west of Lampung, in western waters and South Sunda Strait, Indian Ocean west of Sumatra, southern waters of Java to Sumbawa Island, southern part of Bali-Lombok-Alas Strait, southern Indian Ocean of Java to NTT, southern waters of the Tanimbar Islands and the central and western waters of the Arafuru Sea.
