Apple tests latest generation chips for Mac devices

TIME.CO, JakartaApple tested the M3 chip for the upcoming line of Macs. The company recently started testing the M3 variant high end for Mac Pro M3 Max models. Collect Gadgets now, the next MacBook Pro model being tested with an M3 Max chip and 48GB of RAM. Information obtained from third-party Mac app developers’ test logs.

The new M3 Max will be powered by a 16-core CPU with up to 40 GPU cores. A 16-core CPU consists of 12 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. This is an improvement over the current M2 Max which has a 10-core CPU and up to 38-core GPU. The product should be a MacBook Pro codenamed J514 is currently in the works chip M3 max.

MacBook Pro with M3 Max chip Apple is also reportedly testing a 13-inch MacBook Air and an M3-powered Mac mini. The upcoming M3 chip will consist of an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, similar to the M2.

While the M3 chip may not provide a significant performance boost, the next generation will still benefit of the latest 3-nanometer architecture which should offer higher efficiency than the M2 and M1 chips.

The M3 chip is expected to launch in October 2023. Alongside the 13-inch MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and 27-inch iMac. The Pro and Max versions of the chip will arrive in 2024 with the MacBook Pro and Mac Studio. There’s also a Mac mini that should debut in the coming months.
