TIME.CO, Jakarta – Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas said the government will guarantee the educational rights of Islamic boarding school students Al-Zaitun. According to him, after the Al Zaytun Islamic College leader Panji Gumilang was named as a suspect in religious blasphemy, the Ministry of Religion was given the task of providing guidance to teachers and students.
“We have been in charge of conducting assessments and coaching for all teachers and students in Al Zaytun,” Yaqut said, quoted by the Ministry of Religion’s website on Friday, August 4, 2023.
The coaching that will be carried out, according to Yaqut, will also include rigorous monitoring of Al Zaytun’s learning process. “We have been asked to ensure that Al Zaytun as an educational institution, the children, the students who are there can still get an education,” he said. “But, obviously under close supervision and nobody hidden resume to Al Zaytun which is disrupting the future of the nation,” he continued.
In addition, Yaqut said his party would not comment on the religious blasphemy case that ensnared Panji Gumilang. He said he was the domain of the police.
“Yes, that’s the police’s business, not mine. It’s the police who named Panji Gumilang as a blasphemy suspect. So, we’ll let the police see what the crime will be,” he said.

However, Yaqut assured that the Ministry of Religion would be willing if asked to present expert witnesses. “For blasphemy, if later we are asked for expert witnesses, for example, we will prepare them. Is it blasphemy or not? We have the task of preparing expert witnesses, not commenting on the case,” he said.
Earlier, investigators from Bareskrim Polri General Crimes Directorate named Panji Gumilang as a suspect in the alleged blasphemy case.
The leadership of the Al Zaytun Islamic College is accused of multiple articles, with a maximum threat of 10 years in prison.
