TIME.CO, Jakarta – Abraham Abednego Lincoln, student SMAK 1 Penabur won a silver medal at the 2023 International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Switzerland from 16 to 25 July 2023. She is preparing for the 2023 Chemistry Olympiad from grade IX.

In 2021, he won the National Science Olympiad (OSN) and made it to the second leg of the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). However, unfortunately Abraham failed to make the national team.

This made Abraham disappointed. He had lost confidence in himself and it made him reluctant to go back to the chemistry olympiads. Instead, he was interested in becoming a tutor for the next year’s chemistry olympiad participants.

“It was the encouragement of my coach in Pelatnas that excited me again and I started attending the training for IChO 2023 from an early stage, although in my heart I still thought it was inappropriate and felt that my chemistry skills were decreased,” he said as quoted by the SMAK 1 Penabur website on Monday, July 31, 2023.

At that time, Abraham’s determination to take part in national training or Pelatnas was no longer to qualify, but to add ability new. However, in reality Abraham managed to qualify as Indonesian representative.

Abraham also left for the 55th IChO in Zurich, Switzerland with the Indonesian team of four. Carrying the theme “Finding Solutions”, 348 participants from 89 countries took challenging practical and theory tests over two five-hour days.

“In my opinion, IChO is quite funny this time. The questions posed are inspiring and address problems in the current context, thus inviting us participants to think critically to find the right solution. he said.

Abraham found no significant difficulty when working on the IChO questions because he had been trained to pass the test by school at the National Training Center, so working on the questions for an extended period of time was normal.

“Teachers at school have certainly helped me a lot to be ready to participate in IChO 2023. Starting with teaching, psychological support, prayer, of course. They also allowed me to take a follow-up exam because I had to participate in the Pelatnas”. Abraham said.

Abraham counseled that fellow students could lift themselves from adversity and return to the spirit of pursuing dreams. The ups and downs experience that nearly made Abraham give up turned out to be sweet. At the IChO event this time, he managed to make Indonesia proud by taking home a silver medal.
