250 Indonesian students of Al Azhar University in Egypt obtain ASFA Foundation scholarships

TIME.CO, Jakarta – Up to 250 Indonesian students currently studying at Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt became the recipient Scholarship by the Assalam fil Alamin Foundation (ASFA). The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Cairo also expressed its appreciation to the ASFA Foundation for the award of this scholarship.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Cairo Lutfi Rauf stated that the award of this scholarship was a concrete form and a contribution of the ASFA Foundation to the strategic program of the Indonesian government, namely the development of human resources through the improving the quality of education, including sending potential future Indonesian leaders to Al Azhar. “It is our hope that the steps taken by the ASFA Foundation and other community organizations will continue to be followed by various other scholarship providers as well. We need to see this step as an investment in the future, not just an expenditure of funds” , he said in Cairo on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

At the international seminar and scholarship launch event at the Al Azhar Convention Center (ACC) building in CairoPresident of the ASFA Foundation Syafrudin Kambo recalled the opportunities and challenges for the Indonesian nation in dealing with the demographic bonus from 2030 to 2045. “Today’s young people have a strategic value, because they are the ones who will fill the spaces for the national role in the 2045. Therefore, they must be prepared from now on,” he said.

Furthermore, Syafrudin pointed out that one of the goals of the ASFA Foundation is the development of Indonesian human resources. “Through this scholarship, it is hoped that cadres of Islamic colleges and educational institutions can encourage human resource growth in the future and strengthen institutions,” she said.

In line with this, Al Azhar University Chancellor Salamah Daud said that Al Azhar also provides scholarships to all its students from various nations including Indonesia. “Al Azhar welcomes all the students who want to acquire knowledge so that in the future they can spread the Islamic message wasatiyah taught by Al Azhar,” he said.

The seminar was attended by 2,500 Indonesian students from Al Azhar University. The event was enlivened by awards and accolades in the form of umrohs from Lazis ASFA to Al Azhar graduates from undergraduates to PhDs who received summa cum laude.
